A New Start

With the conclusion of one year, and the beginning of another, many of us are inclined to make New Year’s Resolutions. The year 2020 holds additional weight, as it’s not just a new year, but the beginning of a new decade.

A lot can happen in a decade; things that started as ideas or dreams actually came to life. Maybe it was graduating from college or paying off your student loans. Maybe you picked up a new hobby or made new lifelong friends. Big or small, it’s all worth celebrating. In contrast, this past decade probably also held some heartache and growing pains. Maybe you already learned from it or maybe it’s still something you’re healing from. We all have things we want to hold onto and remember, but also things we’d like to leave behind.

Paul the apostle encourages us in Philippians 3:13 to forget the past and look forward to what lies ahead. There’s a promise for those of us in Christ— a heavenly reward. We can hope and believe that everything happens for a reason and even when we don’t understand the reason, our God is good.

As we hope and watch God’s goodness unfold this new year, do you have any new dreams, hopes, or goals? New Year’s Resolutions tend to end up in disappointment or failure as a resolution almost seems too permanent and daunting. But as Christians, we are told to look forward to “what lies ahead.” We all have something to look forward to in Christ.

Instead of focusing on what you are going to do in the new year, consider what are your intentions?

Let this year be the year of 20/20 vision.
